Artist Statement — Camellia Jiles
My work seeks to capture the beauty of human diversity, complexity, and relationships. It is a response to the indignation that fills me when I consume visual media featuring characters with the same face, body type, and skin tone, only to look around and see a world that looks nothing like that. My work also seeks to motivate individuals to connect with others beyond what physically separates them. My love for fashion and color play a vital role in my art, as well. Human beings have always been my greatest artistic inspiration, and it is my utmost desire to inspire that same captivation in others by creating illustrations, characters, and narratives that are expressive and full of life.
