Artist Statement — Maryam El-Awadi
My work explores portraits in an expressive way. I want to give off peace and comfort when people look at my work. My favorite medium to work in is oil paint because it feels sculptural, I like to feel my medium while I’m working with it. Oil paint creates the most amazing vibrant colors, and color is a very important part of my work. I believe that you can create a narrative, and communicate ideas and emotions solely through color. I love creating dreamlike work where the characters are in a fantastical environment.
